Garden View - Info
Garden View is a neighborhood of the east end of Rossgrove, Washington, more commonly known as The Garden. The Garden is commonly known as the absolutely worst part of Rossgrove. The population of Garden View is largely black with some Hispanics.
Through the 1950s, Garden View, although still poor, had thriving black and Jewish communities, several jazz clubs, its own local newspaper, and a school. It was a popular place for rich white youth to slum. As urban decay set in and people moved out to better areas, jazz’s popularity dried up, and with the advent of drug culture, things began to go downhill.
The Garden originally owed its name to Thomas Park (or just The Park), in the center of Garden View. Originally a large, idyllic park full of flower gardens and walking paths, it has fallen into disuse and decay. The interior of the park is now heavily wooded, and people steer well clear of it at night.
